1. Photoshop and Illustrator
When I first came in at the start of the week I said to myself, ‘All right Jemma, there is nothing to worry about, you do know a little bit about both Photoshop and Illustrator, you’ll be fine’. But after a day, oh boy, I soon found out there was still A LOT for me to learn. As terrible as I was, the designers at True Agency helped me out heaps and were always very patient with my beginner’s knowledge. I now know that with these programs, practise makes perfect.
2. Developing Ideas
I learnt to always develop ideas and designs before deciding on a final version. Things may not look as good as you thought the first time, so it’s important to try out different things, until you are happy with one!
3. Background Work
I learnt how much effort actually goes into building a website, it’s crazy! There is just so much background work that people don’t see.
4. Long Hours
I learnt that maybe I take school for granted, because working 9-5pm everyday really wore me out. I don’t know how they do it everyday.
5. Seeing the world differently
I learnt how to look at things in a different way. Ever since I was taught how to make eye-catching designs, I’ve seen the world so differently. Pointing out logos with my family, talking about how and why the design is so effective, even though they probably don’t understand a word I am saying.
6. Trying New Things
I learnt that its important to try new things in life before settling for something. To explore your options and don’t limit yourself.
7. To Be More Productive
Watching how focussed and concentrated the people at True were, really inspired me to be quieter at school so I can be more productive and actually get my work done!
8. Scary Screens
I learnt that having two or more screens on the computer isn’t actually as scary and daunting as I thought, it did take a lot of time to get used to it though…
9. Awesome Surroundings
I learnt that Chapel Street was even cooler then I thought it was going to be. I totally loved coming in everyday!
10. Happy Environment
And last but not least, I learnt that work actually can be fun if you are doing what makes you happy, and are surrounded by a group of friendly and warm-hearted people. Just like I was, during my week at True Agency.
